GGA goats go mobile.

Patti and me at the days start.
On the road we go. Saturday we (me and neighbor Patti) packed up the trailer, pens, goats, milk stand, chickens and roosters and headed to Pompano for their People and Plants day honoring the Sample- McDougald house. The house was moved to its permanent location and the Pompano Proud group has been diligently restoring it to its former glory. What a great house. What a great group. If, in the area go see it. And say hi to Lee the managing Director of the house and grounds.

The day was long. We packed up the night before (luckily) and headed out at 7 am. Chores started at 5 am for the girls staying behind. I brought Valentina, Florida Girl, Audra, Brewster the rooster and his beloved Penelope,  the chick chirp and kid Glory. PLUS all my soaps, art, 22 dozen eggs (not one broke). Kefir. And this time added some wares from friends- Lady Mary Jam which is a cajeta sweet sauce, and some more soaps from Queen Bee Soaps. Both goat farmers in my area.

Our day is usually spent talking about the goats. Introducing people about our products. What we do. Why we do it. Why we LOVE it.

The ladies who volunteered for this event were wonderfully gracious the whole day. Always checking up on the girls and Glory. They had as much fun as the public did with them.

Mid day I gave a goat milking demonstration. We sold lots of soap, sold out of eggs,  helped friends, with their goat wares. Success.

Overall, great day! Long but lots of fun. Well worth the trip! Bringing the girls is always well worth the extra effort.

What a neat house. We were located to the left. Look at that Veranda.

Kay in love with Glory.
We needed a goat sitter while packing up to leave.

Brewster and Penelope. He never crowed the whole day.

Lady Mary Jam is a cajeta and it was YUM!

Table setup. Its time for 2 tables. See chirp our greeter on the table? All day she sat there.
Send me an email if you would like us to come to your next event.

New Chicken Coop and goat cover

Finally!! done. But, i'm having a heck of time trying to get them to stay in there. They have been taught by their mum that the garage is home. And i can't get them to see this as their new roosting spot.

I kept them in for 5 days. Let them out and same thing back to the garage. Now mind you, the garage door is now closed. And staying closed. So they can't sneak in. So where do they roost? On the water tank. On the fence. On the roof covering the water tank. the places closest to the garage.

9 chickens. 9 trips from the water tank to the coop. Every night.

Grrrr!

They are now in the coop for at least another 10 days.!

On the other side i added a covering for the goats. For shade. useless in a thunderstorm. But hey, i'll have to figure something out to keep them dry. Maybe those Sunbrella shades?

For Noble my newest addition. A buck. I put up a fence splitting the paddock and the covering. Soon enough he's going to be wanting a little action. And we can't have that. Not until i say so!

So now everyone (theoretically) has a home. With cover. And when it rains i don't have to run around herding them all in to various stalls. Or worse, the house!

And just for fun! here is iggy's latest mug shot. Yes! he is on a diet. But for some reason it's not working. I rarely feed him anything but his pot belly pig food. Well, i guess the other morning before i got up, he did sneak into the freezer and ate a lb. of bacon, two filet mignon's and 15 orange popsicles. But that was just a diet misstep. Really.

Osceola wild turkeys-gobble, gobble....

Now you can call me crazy. I don't know what i was thinking. And i don't know why i have them, but what a hoot. And what coloring. They are absolutely beautiful to look at. Hopefully the pictures attached will give it justice. I thought my rooster was beautiful with all his rustic colorings, and some metallic sheen to them. BUT these turkeys are majestic. Every deep dark shade has a metallic sheen to them. They shimmer in the sunlight. You have to see for yourself.

A friend called last month, told me he had to rehome two pet turkeys. I laughed too. And wondered what the heck? They are hand raised as pets and they wanted to make sure they went to a home that wouldn't eat them. Well, that's me. I can't even eat the eggs the chickens are laying. I keep letting them hatch.

So, here they are....

Oh, and they gobble... and strut. and drum all day long. So cool. My first encounter with them drumming was eery. I kept hearing this weird sound, and it couldn't be located, just sounded like someone far away was playing the bass on their boom box too loud. It didn't register till i was watching them one day, and the booms coincided with the strut and the feather rustle, breasting out, and a cluck. and then the BOOM! Ha.... Live and learn.

named them TOM (of course) and BOB! (after the donater).... well have a look...
