On Being Child “FREE”

I stumbled upon this womans site this morning. Beware! you might not like it. I, on the other hand LOVE her. She tells it like it is. And she doesn't mince any words.

I'm childless. And i love being that way. She calls this ChildFREE and that term i agree is better. It's more positive. As opposed to "less" i'm "Free". Actually i have more by being less. And everything I do in life is "free'd" up by the ability to do what I want when I want. Well, barring the fact that i have a small farm and animals are a bit like children. But unlike children, if they piss me off, i can eat them. :)

This is a great site for all of us that don't want kids. Never wanted kids. And so on. You know those of us that are selfish and cowardly and immature and so on. :)

Unlike this site though i really do like kids. I like them for the most important reason. THEY aren't mine. I get to enjoy them on the weekends, when i feel like it. I get to interact and get to know them when they are on their best behavior. Best of all? I get to send them home after a few hours. It's great! i get the best of both worlds.

I do agree with much of what she says though. I don't agree with much of what she says too. She answers the most basic of queries. I get them to. I've never been as succinct as she is. But will from now on.

Here is are a few snippets from her site.

You're pretty smart. You should have a kid. Smart people need to pass on their genes.

Hmm, more and more smart people aren't having kids... I wonder why that is? Maybe smart people are smart enough to realize it isn't worth it!

Here's the painful truth: There is absolutely NO WAY that smart people can outbreed the idiots. It's impossible. Smart people who actually have kids stop at one or two because any more than that and you just don't have the time to raise them right. Meanwhile, the idiots have five, six or eighteen children. So even if smart people wanted to TRY to outbreed idiots, they couldn't do it. Not without becoming idiots themselves!

I get the above comment all the time. As well as the next one. Rubbish.

Who is going to take care of you when you are old?

Is this why you had children? As an insurance policy? "Okay kids, here's the deal. I'll take care of you for 18 years, but after that, you are on your own until I'm sick, and then you have to take care of me. It's the rules!" Sounds pretty selfish! Is there anything more selfish than that?!

Why do you think I'm incapable of taking care of myself? And what makes you so sure that your kids are going to take care of you when you are old? If children are taking care of their parents, why are there so many people in nursing homes??

I feel so sorry for you. You're really missing out.

Funny, I was just about to say the same to you! No, it's true. You might not want to believe it but I'm having a great life! I have more free time to do things for myself and for other people (people outside my immediate family). Sure, I'm missing out on all those great toddler tantrums, all the late night wake-up calls, all the potty-training fun, sibling rivalry issues, etc. etc. but I can live with that. Something tells me it's worth missing out

  1. I got a real kick out of this! I visited several of the sites. Some of them are a little extreme but still funny. I never wanted kids either and have for years, gotten a lot of those comments. I loved the response to "don't you want to hear the pitter, patter of little feet?" Too funny!
