INTP

I've taken these personality tests from time to time. For serious and for fun. You can find them all over the net. But what is interesting, I guess, is I'm always the same. INTP.

Keirsey is the most famous of them. HERE if you have the time. Take this one. I took it eons ago but remember it being a bit long. So mark off some time for this one.

I=Introverted
N= Intuition
T=Thinking
P= Perceiving

If you've never done it before I highly suggest it. Its one of those things that you know but never really seen yourself so black and white before. All wrapped up in a TYPE. Though of course the test is only as good as you are honest. Its also somewhat hard to cheat as they throw the questions at you in different ways. but still, I suppose one could find a way to create their own reality. But then why would you? Just do it and be honest. And best case scenario is to do it and not think on any one question for too long.

Here is a fun quick version of it. And again it was INTP. And where I got this badge.

I took it the first time years and years ago. I was having difficulty with a particular boss. Or he was having problems with me. And I took the Keirsey test. Printed it out and put it on his desk. I had asked him to read it and let's discuss. I was truly putting myself out there since I loved my job. But i was ready to quit. And was in tears weekly. I don't know what worked. The test on the desk? or the fact that I was letting him know i wanted to work it out. Either or I stayed at the job another 3 years (plus the two i had been there already). So to me it was a good tool.

Here's a little snippet of quotes of an INTP.

About the INTP
Expert Quotes & Links

"INTPs are relatively easy-going and amenable to most anything until their principles are violated, about which they may become outspoken and inflexible. They prefer to return, however, to a reserved albeit benign ambiance, not wishing to make spectacles of themselves."
- INTP Profile (TypeLogic)

"The INTP is above all a thinker and his inner (private) world is a place governed by a strong sense of logical structure. Every experience is to be rigorously analysed, the task of the INTP's mind is to fit each encountered idea or experience into a larger structure defined by logic."
- An INTP Profile (intp.org)

"INTPs live in the world of theoretical possibilities. They see everything in terms of how it could be improved, or what it could be turned into. They live primarily inside their own minds, having the ability to analyze difficult problems, identify patterns, and come up with logical explanations. They seek clarity in everything, and are therefore driven to build knowledge. They are the "absent-minded professors", who highly value intelligence and the ability to apply logic to theories to find solutions."
- Portrait of an INTP (The Personality Page)
"The Architects' distant goal is always to rearrange the environment somehow, to shape, to construct, to devise, whether it be buildings, institutions, enterprises, or theories. They look upon the world -- natural and civil -- as little more than raw material to be reshaped according to their design..."
"INTPs contribute a logical, system-building approach to their work. They like being the architect of a plan, because of the scheming and thinking involved, far more than being the implementer of that plan. Implementation tends to be drudgery. They are content to sit back and think about what might work, given their view of the situation. INTPs may ignore standard operating procedures. The hours that they spend are not what is important to them, but rather the completion of their thought process"
- INTP - The Wizard (Lifexplore)

"likes solitude, not revealing, unemotional, rule breaker, avoidant, familiar with the darkside, skeptical, acts without consulting others"
- Jung Type Descriptions (INTP) (similarminds.com)

So! Go have some fun. In the end its not going to "change" your personality. Or might not save that job, but, when armed with your strengths and your weaknesses all laid out on paper, I believe it can help you with anything you are struggling with. Or why you are so successful on some levels but need work on others.

But if nothing else? GO look up who are famous in your TYPE and see if you have them already on your list of Inspiring heros. To me that was a fun wow moment.

  1. It looks a lot like a shortened version of the old Myers/Briggs test. Same terminology and everything.

  2. yep Myers/Briggs. Either Keirsey owns the rights? or not sure but that was one of the formal named tests i remember taking eons ago.
