blue-eyed snake

I am trying to research this snake found in my yard sunday. It was awesome. I had my cousin over (he's 2) and i told him how i had found a snake in the yard last week. We went to the exact same location and under the dead palm fronds we found this one. It might be a ribbon snake. But it has some really weird looking blue eyes. and my cousin said it was from mites. I've never heard of that so can't say for sure. It wasn't too happy we disturbed it. What is with that little area under that palm tree....

  1. My son has a snake. Their eyes cloud over like that when they are about to shed their skin.

  2. It's a garter snake and it's about to shed. As the skin loosens,a layer of condensation forms between the old eye covering and the new beneath. It temporarilly impedes the snakes vision and they get irritable and quick to bite.
